Art-Khotyn is an association of innovative artists, created in 2010. It united Valentyna Koziar, Mykhailo Kyrylenko, and Ivan Kyrylenko, and reflects the traditions of Ukraine’s best schools of art: those of Odesa and Lviv. Now the painters are working in Bukovyna, exploring the sphere of figurative art. A synthesis of different schools creates a unique coloring, rich imagery, and profound contents in their canvases.

Mykhailo Kyrylenko and Koziar, both graduates of the Odesa Pedagogical Institute, have imbibed the traditions of south Russian impressionism and the subtlety, typical for the Odesa school and manifested in the artists’ meticulous handling of images and thorough handpicking of hues and composition solution, says Art-Khotyn. The painters continued their career in Bukovyna, where they were considerably influenced by the Lviv school of painting. Its typical bright, decorative painting is also present in their works, while the composition suggests reliance on realistic traditions.

Mykhailo Kyrylenko’s paintings are dominated by monumental shapes, clear and lucid colors, say the organizers of the exhibit.

The youngest representative of the group, Ivan Kyrylenko, remains true to the traditions and principles he has taken over from his father. Yet, unlike Kyrylenko-senior’s paintings, his are more delicate and sophisticated, with dynamic composition, full of movement and emotion.

Koziar is the heart and an active participant of Art-Khotyn. Her career was largely influenced by her teacher, Kyrylenko Sr. Bold colors, mysterious images, and exquisite composition are all typical for her work.

“The Heavenly and the Earthly” resembles a dialog with the spectator, since images prompt contemplation of philosophical problems and immerse the individual in his inner world, which hides more information than everyday life. All the three artists have an extraordinary artistic manner. They are self-sufficient, yet together they create an interesting phenomenon in the art of Bukovyna. They have participated in numerous domestic and international festivals, auctions, and exhibits, and their works can be found in private collections and in museums both in Ukraine and abroad.

The exhibit is open through June 12.
