The exhibition “Ukrainian contemporary art in the mirror of the Vienna Modernism” was launched at Otto-Mauer-Zentrum on January 16. According to the organizers, this vernissage of painting will demonstrate the cultural interconnectedness of Austria and Ukraine, in particular, the affinity of artistic traditions. The creative work of four Ukrainian artists was formed under the influence of the modern European school of painting, and the Vienna Modernism as well. Today their works represent not only Ukrainian contemporary art, but also Ukraine as a state itself.

For example, the artist from Ivano-Frankivsk Myroslav Yaremak has been working on modern contemporary art for many years. “The main difference between the traditional art and an actual one is that in the first all attention is paid to the aesthetic, and in the second one – to the ethic. It is more important not what you do, but how,” fenomen.in.ua quotes Yaremak as saying. By the way, according to the art historians, it is Yaremak who authored the term “Stanislav Phenomenon,” which denoted a complex of powerful phenomena in visual arts and literature in Ivano-Frankivsk in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

His compatriot Myroslava Tetiana Pavlyk is working in another complicated technique – watercolor (moreover, “watercolor on wet”). This technique does not allow correction, reworking of pictures as using oil, gouache or other paints! Because the paintings are painted with watercolor paints at the first try, which requires accuracy, virtuosity, and even advanced intuition. Pavlyk works in the fields of painting, book and easel graphics, photography. Being a renowned artist she is an active participant in many international and national exhibitions, contests and plein-air sessions – primarily artistic as well as photographic. Her works are kept in museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.

The famous Kyiv artist and art critic Hlib Vysheslavskyi is a member of several creative unions, in particular the International Association of Art, the union of the artists “Sztuka bez granic,” the independent artistic association “Terra,” etc. He is the author of paintings and graphic works, installations and performances. He also took part in the 50th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, was a curator and participant in many artistic projects that have been shown in many countries around the world. Vysheslavskyi is also the author of numerous theoretical publications on contemporary art, in particular underground, a “new wave,” etc.
