“In the framework of 2014-15 Kyoto Protocol we have refurbished 120 cars. This allowed to extend their service lifetime by 20 years and save up to 40 percent of electricity. Itochu is ready to continue the cooperation and fully modernize another 10 cars at the expense of other projects, the funds for which were by the intergovernmental agreement between Ukraine and Japan and which for various reasons have not been implemented in Ukraine,” said Vitalii Klitschko after a meeting with the management of Itochu corporation in Tokyo. According to him, the modernization of subway cars would amount to 265.4 million dollars. The total amount of unused funds is about 960.4 million dollars.
“I hope we will agree upon this issue with our government, because we want to have these 10 cars upgraded within the ‘green investments’ program,” continued Klitschko.
Kyiv Mayor said that in 2016 the main contractor – PJSC “Kriukiv Train Car Factory” has received another 15 cars to refurbish in the third phase of the modernization according to the Kyoto Protocol.
